Freddy books offer up any number of valuable life lessons. In ‘The Story of Freginald’, we learn to always check the back seat before getting in the car, lest there be a lion and a bear hiding there. It happens.
‘The Story of Freginald’ is a bit of an oddity in the series, and if you want to find out why, join our Book Club at 7 pm, Sunday July 20. We are working our way through the series, and every other month we take an hour off to talk about a title in the series…
One of our illustrious members, Connie Arnold, is going to give a talk on Freginald at our Oct 4-6 in-person convention. We’ll be meeting in upstate New York, at a lovely old inn, the Winter Clove. It’s a weekend of Friendships, Fun and Freddy facts… Everyone is welcome!
Questions for Discussion
This is the first book where the animals can speak to humans (other than Santa Claus). What do you think the series would have been like if Brooks hadn’t made this change? Did you notice the difference in these early books when reading them for the first time?
What were your first impressions or favorite characters from the circus?
What did you think of the villains in this book?
Did you like Freginald as a “main” character in the book? What similarities or differences do you see between Freddy and Freginald?
Are there parallels between Boomschmidt’s circus and the Bean farm?
If you were to rename the book to include Freddy in the title, what title would you use?
In case you don’t have time to fully read the book beforehand, here is an excellent summary that Kevin prepared several years ago for the Bean Home Newsletter.
